Over the years, NFS has become legendary in the gaming industry. The Need For Speed games are always graphically attractive and very playable. In 1997, EA released an enhanced version of NFS2, called Need For Speed 2: Special Edition, focusing primarily on graphics enhancements and I must say, the graphics were at their peak at that time. Other new features were added as well, such as 4 new cars (Ferrari F355F1, Ford Mustang Mach III, Italdesign Nazca C2, and Ford Indigo), 3 bonus cars, 1 new track, and new game modes, including the opportunity to drive mirrored or reverse tracks. However, it remained the good old NFS, with all its positive and negative characteristics. Controlling the car is smooth but not entirely simple, so it might take some time to get used to it and avoid crashing into every tree. In the Special Edition, a new game mode called “Wild” was added—here, you can drive at such speeds that other machines would start to fly.
The primary focus of NFS2: SE was on elevating the visual experience, and it succeeded admirably, setting a new benchmark for graphics quality in racing games at the time.
